Misc Items from Around the Kitchen

When I woke up this morning, I was hoping I wouldn’t be eating lunch today. Why no lunch? Because today is 13th Street diner day, which invariably involves a breakfast big enough to last me until dinner. From the moment I crawled out of bed, my mind was locked on the target a mile away: 2 eggs-over-medium, biscuits and gravy, patty sausage, home fries and black coffee. I won’t get into the graphic Pavlovian responses, but let’s just say I was looking forward to it.

Unfortunately, just as I was getting into the car, I received a work-related phone call and had to head back to the office/house. So, there would be no 13th Street. No eggs, no biscuit & gravy, no sausage, no home fries, no coffee.

Consequently, once noon rolled around, lunch was required. A sandwich was in order. However, we were out of lunch meat, and running out of lunch meat usually means one of two things:

I go into town and find food at an eatery.
I search the kitchen and throw things on a plate.
Turns out, option #2 usually yields a more healthy and tasty lunch than option #1 or my normal sandwich. Today’s lunch was no exception to that rule.

Here, we have: hummus on pita wedges, crackers & brie, mixed greens (and purples?) with olive oil & balsamic vinegar, herby/garlicky olives, and Chianti.
