Also, I will tumble about yesterday’s brunch at Martin as soon as I get the pictures of it onto the computer.

lafille's Pad Thai Peroration
Ok, so I FINALLY got some Thai food here in New Orleans. I was beginning to go through withdrawal. Today was my first day running around town without a chaperone, checking out places that interested me, and managing not to get lost in the process. I accomplished my goals of visiting GNO Cyclery and Octavia Books, then went to Basil Leaf for some Pad Thai on my way home. Any time I visit a new...

Leftover Madness
Christmas ham, potatoes, green beans, and spaghetti — yes, spaghetti — all warmed over in a big bowl.
Dec 29th
Yesterday we had brunch at Martin Wine Cellar, which is what you do on Sundays. Or what we do, at least. For my first visit as an official New Orleans resident, I figured I ought to have grits and grillades. From the New Orleans Cuisine blog: Grillades are made with Round Steak, of Beef or Veal, although you could use pork. This dish like many other greats from New Orleans, comes from meager...

Late Start = Brunch
Got a bit of a late start today. Thus, there was neither breakfast nor lunch, but rather brunch. Which was in the form of two eggs over medium atop two slices of deli ham (fried up a bit) atop two English muffin halves with a little homemade mayo. And it was good.

Stay Don't Go
Today I hung out with my parents and they fed me, which is almost always delightful. Lunch was homemade mac and cheese but it had all kinds of extra junk in it that made it extra delicious. Mom also made hot cocoa from real cocoa. Of course, all of this deliciousness was a ploy to get me not to move out of the state. To which I reply, “It will take more than cheese.” Now, if there...

Home-style
Today’s lunch was creamy peanut butter and strawberry preserves on wheat bread. Oh, and a satsuma for dessert. Man, if you’ve never had a satsuma orange you’re missing out. They’re so sweet, and the peels really do just fall right off. It’s not so much peeling as it is undressing. So good. I missed satsumas so much.

Hungover Noodle
Today was leftover drunken noodle from House of Thai. I’m pretty sure you’d call that hungover noodle.

Consumed by mouth not camera
I specifically brought my camera to lunch at Dosun Noodle House because I knew I’d be getting the char-grilled pork and green onions and fried shallots over jasmine rice with nuoc cham on the side. And I did. And I ate that deliciousness RIGHT UP without bothering to take a picture. BUT MAN IS VIETNAMESE PORK OVER RICE ONE OF THE BEST THINGS EVER SECOND ONLY TO PHO. Thank you.

Accidental Lunch
I had to eat a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich for lunch today because a customer ordered it and then told me no bacon after I brought it out to him. Kids, read the menu!

GMF's Creamy Winter Squash Soup
Today, Good Mood Food was featuring their creamy winter squash soup. I had heard that it rocks your face off, and it held up quite well to expectations. On the side was the usual salad greens with shredded carrot, grape tomatoes and vinaigrette as well as Faye’s awesome olive rosemary bread, which took me right back to the Broad St. Bakery days. As a little somethin’ extra, they threw...

The Cupboards are Bare
So I’m getting ready to move and don’t want to buy any more groceries. Get ready for some crappy lunches this week, yo. Yesterday I had black beans and rice from the pantry. Today I had leftover black beans and rice from the pantry.

Mine was on french bread, though. Very tasty. As I’ve said before, everything’s better with avocado.

I had fail for lunch.

Cafe Trio
Wednesday I was on my own in Cookeville and tried out Cafe Trio, which used to be World Foods. I’d always loved the muffuletta at World Foods, so I thought I’d try it out. Meat, cheese, olives. Potato chips and a soda. Not bad, not bad, but nothing to write home about. I sat in the window reading my book, watching the college-students-made-insane by-finals running around like crazy...

GMF's Veggie Burger
A rockin’ veggie burger was consumed today for lunch at Good Mood Foods. Salad on the side. They also threw in a small bowl of the white bean and vegetable soup. All was very tasty. Now, coffee.

No Lunch. Breakfast.
Wednesday, I had breakfast at 13th St. 2 eggs over medium, 2 sausage patties, biscuit & gravy, a big ol’ pile of home fries, and a cup of coffee. With a breakfast like that, I needed no lunch. I was good ‘til dinner.

Turkey Sandwich Repeat
Today was a repeat of Sunday’s turkey sandwich, except this time I had potato chips on the side. Very exciting stuff. Now, it’s coffee time at the coffee place.

Veggie Day
Today I made one of my favorite sandwichy concoctions. First I tossed some sliced onion and bell pepper on the panini machine and gave ‘em a good grill. Melted some Swiss cheese on top of the vegetables and threw it all on some whole wheat toast with lettuce and hummus. So tasty! This deliciousness was accompanied by some cheddar SunChips and quinoa tabouli from the co-op (quinoa, red...

GMF's Black Bean Burger
Had lunch at Good Mood Foods today. Black bean burger and roasted potatoes. It was pretty tasty. I think I like their veggie burger better though.

BLAR
Bacon, lettuce, avocado, ranch on whole wheat. The ranch was a poor decision on my part, but the rest was tasty. Followed by a piece o’ toast with peanut butter and honey.

Why, I'm doing well, thank you!
Oddly, the shopping center that Fellini Kroger calls home also houses the most polite Taco Bell I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Now, I hardly ever go to Taco Bell, for when I have a Mexican craving, I usually make time to go to the delicious Senor Taco. However, it is the closest fast food place to my current apartment, so I’ve found myself running through the drive-thru more than...

Lunch? Where we're going we don't need ... lunch.
A hardened road warrior like me making the long haul from Knoxville to Cookeville doesn’t have time for lunch. Instead, men of my standing make the option to traverse the wild unknowns with empty stomachs and loud voices. Except for when we get really hungry, of course, because all we had for breakfast was about three bites of vanilla pudding cake and a cup of coffee, and so we decide to...

Turkey Sandwich, etc.
I’ve kind of been grazing today. I had a late breakfast (eggs, ham, biscuit). Since then, I’ve had a few bites of Stacie’s ramen noodle snack, several handfuls of chocolate chips, an oreo truffle, then a bowl of raisin bran around 2:00. And now, I’m having a small turkey sandwich. It’s deli-sliced, honey smoked turkey breast with romain lettuce, homemade pesto,...

Comfort Food.
Mmm…Bistro by the Bijou, I will miss you for the following reasons: 1. Your atmosphere is awesome, yo. All that dark wood and brick, the naked lady painting over the bar, and the fact that you’re the oldest continuously open bar/restaurant in town makes for a lovely dining experience. 2. You’re the most likely place for catching a glimpse of the luminaries who come to...

Birthday Sammich
Today was a busy day at the coffee shop, so I couldn’t dedicate much energy to creating a masterful meal. I did, however, manage to crank up the panini machine. The results were ok, but not amazingly scrumptious. Bacon, turkey, and cream cheese on whole grain bread, tossed in the sandwich press. I totally need some veggies now.

Backdoor Burger
There’s a burger joint on campus called Backyard Burger. I realized this morning I’ve never had one of their burgers, so I decided to remedy that. Four dollars and some-odd cents later I find myself here at my desk wondering what possessed me to do this. I’m especially irked by the fact that as I was picking up my food my co-worker called me to ask me to lunch, I suppose in...

Gr-h-eese (pron. grease)
HAM! SIX SLICES OF THIN LUNCHMEAT HAM! Put that in the skillet and get it HOT and cook the water out of it and then pick it out with your BARE FINGERS because implements are for the weak. Put it on bread with mayo and two slices of Swiss cheese. Once your sandwich is assembled, butter the outside liberally and GRILL THAT THING. GRilled Ham and chEESE. GREASE.

Best. Leftover Turkey Sandwich. Since the one...
Yesterday, I heated up some piquillo peppers and leftover turkey in a pan with some olive oil. I put that on some Italian bread with homemade basil pesto, goat cheese and spinach. The sandwich was then placed in the George Foreman grill panino-style. It was nice and tasty with some olive antipasto on the side. The above was topped off with some Irish breakfast tea and pumpkin pie. It was a...

The History of the Tumbled Lunch
Kevin, Casey and I decided that there should be a place on the internet where you can share what you had for lunch. If you would like to tumble your lunch, you’re welcome to join our group. Just click the link at the top of Tumbled Lunch that says “Tumble your lunch.”
